Sandra Lee
Bryant
Nov 29, 1938 — Sep 24, 2026
Kingwood, formerly Kosse
Sandra Lee Bryant passed away on Thursday, September 24, 2026, at the age of 87. Sandra was born in Houston, Texas on November 29, 1938, the only child of Charles and Thelma Hipp. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband B.J. Bryant, and her son Charles Bryant.
Sandra grew up in the Port Houston area. She attended Milby High School and Port Houston Baptist Church, where she met B.J. Bryant. Sandra and B.J. married and had two sons, Charles Lee and William Joel. The Bryant family lived in the North Shore area and attended Uvalde Baptist Church. Though a wife and mother of two young boys, Sandra was undeterred in her pursuit of higher education. She earned a bachelor’s degree from the University of Houston and then a master’s degree in education from Sam Houston State University. Sandra was a third-grade teacher at Cimarron Elementary in Galena Park ISD for many years.
In the early eighties, Sandra and B.J. moved to the Kosse, Texas community where they became active members at First Baptist Church, Kosse. Sandra continued her teaching career at H.O. Whitehurst in Groesbeck and taught there until her retirement some years later. After her retirement, Sandra remained active in the Kosse community through her membership in the Kosse Heritage Society, service at FBC Kosse, and involvement in various community groups (like her friends the Kosse Quilters). She taught Sunday school, led Vacation Bible School at FBC Kosse, and tutored and mentored both children and adults. She and B.J. loved to entertain, hosting friends for gospel music singing and playing 42. She was never idle—always gardening, quilting, or challenging herself to learn a new skill. When declining health forced her to move in with her son and daughter-in-law in the Houston area, she remained devoted to continuing to encourage God’s people through her attendance at Summer Creek Baptist Church.
Sandra was hard-working, funny, and so incredibly loving. But most importantly she was a devoted servant of Jesus Christ. She loved the Lord her God with all her heart, mind, and soul, and was truly eager to share that love with anyone she could. Her heart and home were always open—whether it be for a friend, family member, or a stranger. And she was always ready to offer you prayer and a listening ear. She had a great sense of humor, never taking herself too seriously. She had the ability to make every person feel valuable, capable, and loved.
Sandra is survived by her son Joel Bryant and his wife Melanie Bryant; daughter-in-law Valicia Thompson; grandchildren Kyle Bryant, Nicole Payne, Kristen Bryant, Cara Dudley, Kelli Moore, and Rebecca Bryant; and twelve great-grandchildren.
