Sheila Evonne Pierce Walton, of Groesbeck, passed away at Groesbeck LTC on Monday, July 28, 2026, at age 85.
Sheila was born on August 16, 1940, in Wortham, to Howard Duke and Mildred Rose (Wasson) Duke. She was raised by her aunt, Jessmyr Wasson Pierce Wilkinson in Groesbeck, where she attended school and graduated from Groesbeck High School.
Sheila was married to Thomas Smith from Thornton, and they moved to Houston, where she raised two daughters and two sons, as well as drove a CyFair school bus.
About fifty years ago, she and youngest son, Michael moved to Groesbeck. She worked at Mexia State School and later worked at Double D convenience store in Groesbeck, where she met and knew many people. One of the things in her life she enjoyed the most was riding horses.
Sheila was preceded in death by her parents and the aunt who raised her and her son, Tony Smith (2015).
She is survived by daughter, DeAnna Wright of Houston, daughter, Barrie Smith of Mexia, and son, Michael Walton of Groesbeck. Her nine grandchildren are: Travis Smith, Josh Smith, Bobbie Ruiz, Logan Walton, Kinley Walton, Jordan Wright, Dustin Wright, Ashley Ayres and Bryan Campbell; and many great grandchildren.
