Tommy Ray Sims, (also called “Tommy Jack” by some), of Groesbeck, passed away at Baylor Scott and White Hillcrest Hospital in Waco on Tuesday, June 16, 2026, at age 73.
Visitation will be held on Friday, June 19, 2026, from 10:00 – 11:30 a.m., in the Groesbeck Funeral Home Chapel.
A Memorial service will begin at 11:30 a.m. in the Groesbeck Funeral Home Chapel, with Dr. Keith Collier officiating.
Tommy was born October 4, 1952, in Freeport, TX to Raymond Wilson Sims and Tommie Oreta (Little) Sims. He grew up in Clute and Angleton, where he graduated from High School in 1970.
Tommy went to Blinn Junior College in Brenham as a walk on to play football and then played football at Sam Houston State University during his last years of college. After college, he farmed rice in the Angleton area a few years, before attending trade school to become a millwright.
During his life, he had enjoyed duck and deer hunting, and power lifting, as long as his health permitted.
Tommy moved to Lost Prairie in 1983, to begin work at the power plant in Jewett as a maintenance mechanic. He was a hard worker, giving his “all” to his work during many years before retiring from NRG.
Tommy was united in marriage with Roseland “Micky” Brewer on August 11, 1984, in Groesbeck at the Lost Prairie Baptist Church, and they made their home in the Lost Prairie community.
After retirement, he settled in, “giving his all” to watch his grandchildren with great joy.
Tommy loved the Lord and had accepted Christ in his teen years. He and Micky attended First Baptist Church in Groesbeck. His family will cherish the memory of Tommy as a sweet and kind-hearted man, who was generous even when he was a child.
Tommy was preceded in death by an infant sister, Brenda, before his birth; his father, Raymond W. Sims (1961); mother, Tommie Singletary (2020); and stepfather, Thomas Rayford Singletary (2010).
He is survived by his wife, Roseland “Micky” Sims; son and daughter-in-law, David and Olga Sims of Rice, TX, and their children, Abram, Eli, and Isabella; daughter and son-in-law, Erin and Cody Weisinger of Flint, TX; brother and sister-in-law, Raymond and Peggy Sims of Groesbeck, TX; step-brother and wife, Terry and Maxell Singletary of Lake Jackson, TX; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
In lieu of flowers, anyone wishing may make donations in memory of Tommy to First Baptist Church of Groesbeck.
