William “Bill” Newman Stallings, of Donie, passed away at his home unexpectedly on Monday, September 15, 2025, at age 85.

Visitation will be held at Groesbeck Funeral Home on Friday, September 19, 2025, from 5:00 – 7:00 p.m.

Graveside services will begin at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, September 20, 2025, in Oakes Cemetery, with Bro. Johnny Varetto of Cedar Creek Baptist Church of Teague officiating.

Bill was born on February 5, 1940, in Louisiana to William B. Stallings and Margaret (Reily) Stallings. He lived in LaMarque during most of his youth and graduated from LaMarque High School. He attended Lamar University until joining the Marine Corps.

Bill served in the United States Marines and then in the Reserves for a total of eight years. He began working in construction while in the Reserves, starting as an electrician in the petrochemical industry in Texas City and progressed into industrial construction management. During his mid to late career, he was involved in pharmaceutical construction and power plants in Saudia Arabia, Libya, Ireland, Venezuela, and Ecuador.

Bill was married for more than 40 years to Nelda Ruth (Oakes) of Waco, and they lived around the world, with their final home being in Marietta, Ohio. Nelda passed away in 2003. Earlier in his youth, Bill had enjoyed golf and sailing.

Later, in 2006, Bill was united in marriage with Glenda (Oakes) Bryant, and they made their home near Donie. After he retired, he enjoyed the country life and stayed active with his cattle operation on his ranch until his last day. He was an active member of the Cedar Creek Baptist Church in Teague where he worked the sound system and served as usher.

Bill was preceded in death by his parents; first wife, Nelda Oakes Stallings (2003) and granddaughter, Emersyn Ryleigh Stallings (1/17/2017).

He is survived by his wife, Glenda (Oakes) Stallings; daughter and son-in-law, Laurie and Joe Balliew of Phoenix, AZ; son and daughter-in-law, Jay and Courtney Stallings of Celina; and his niece/stepdaughter and stepson-in-law, Sharon and Bill Napier of Granbury, and niece/stepdaughter, Nelda Pannell of Waco.

The grandchildren are: Will Stallings of Austin, Harrison Stallings of Celina, Taylor and Kayla Balliew of Phoenix, Carson Balliew of Phoenix, and step grandchildren: Paul Pannell of Pleasant Point, NJ, Melanie and Paul Steel of Katy, Randy Holt of Weatherford, John and Madison Napier of Duncanville, Mark and Kelly Napier of Cedar Hill, and Audrey Napier of Granbury; and there are 15 great grandchildren.
